The Amazing Number 24

This is the year 2024. Is there anything significant about the number 24? That question was on my mind, so I set out to find the answer. It seems there are many items with the number 24.

The number of carots of pure gold is 24. There are 24 letters in the Greek alphabet: the original language of the New Testament. The number of points on a Backgammon board is 24.

The largest man in the Bible, Goliath of Gath, had a total of 24 fingers and toes. He had twelve fingers and twelve toes.

The smallest number, with exactly 8 numbers dividing into it is 24 (24 divided by 1equals 24; 24 divided by 2 equals 12, etc.). That continues for the numbers 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24).

King David divided the Old Testament priests into 24 courses or divisions. Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, was of the course of Abijah (Luke 1:5).

The Gospel of Luke, the largest New Testament book by verses (1,151), has 24 chapters. By comparison, Matthew, the gospel account with the most chapters (28) has only 1071 verses. The book of Acts also has more chapters than Luke but only 1007 verses.

There are 24 Old Testament references in the New Testament Gospel of Mark. There are twenty-seven Old Testament chapters with 24 verses. Psalm 72 lists 24 things Jesus will do when He sits on His throne during His millennial reign. Some of this includes, He will righteously judge the people. He will judge, with justice, the poor and needy. He shall rule like rain upon grass. He will cause the righteous to flourish. He will bring the righteous an abundance of peace. He will cause an abundance of grain on the earth. He will bless all people.

The number of bulls for a peace offering in the Old Testament was 24 bulls (Numbers 7:88).

In the Book of Revelation, there are seven (the perfect number) references to the 24 elders and the 24 thrones upon which the elders will sit.

There are 24 hours in a day. A case of soft drinks used to be 24 bottles. Many of you can remember when we purchased soft drinks that way.
